Reporters Clark Kent and Lois Lane cover the opening of a new museum in Metropolis when a blue whale skeleton comes to life due to the powers of Mr. Mxyzptik, who returns from the fifth dimension with troublesome tricks and magic that rivals the strength of Superman.

While Superman is busy trying to stop a series of crazy crimes, Lex Luthor attempts to get his hands on a space probe containing a large kryptonite meteor.

After a series of earthquakes occur across the planet, several students on a field trip become trapped within a crumbling mountain, and after Superman tries to rescue them, tremors reveal a large piece of kryptonite, which leaves Superman to rely on help from a child.
