Omaha Beach on D-Day

On June 6, 1944, the photographer Robert Capa captured an iconic image of an American GI submerged in the Normandy surf. The remarkable shot was taken at harrowing personal risk. Capa's photograph came to represent the final stages of World War II to the world. Already a notable war photographer, Capa was one of the few photojournalists who disembarked on the beach that day. His famous shot, along with a few others from that roll of film, are the only images that survive from Omaha Beach on D-Day.
