Turning red

Thirteen-year-old Mei Lee loves her friends, school, and a boy band called 4 Town, but keeps those interests separate from her home life, where she faces pressure to live up to her mother's expectations. When she turns into a giant red panda one day, she learns that the females in her family have inherited the ability to transform, but that it can be taken away in a ceremony during the red moon. When Mei is denied permission to attend an upcoming 4 Town concert, she secretly uses her red panda form to raise money to buy tickets for her and her friends, resulting in a showdown between her and her mother.
